Coco Crisp now to be Oakland A’s No. 2 hitter
When Coco Crisp rejoins the A’s — he got Sunday off after playing a full nine innings with Class A Stockton on Saturday night — rookie Billy Burns will remain in the leadoff spot.
Manager Bob Melvin said he’s envisioning Crisp, Oakland’s longtime leadoff man, batting second.
“I’ve talked to Coco about that a little bit,” he said. “I do like the dynamic, potentially, of the two of them at the top. … When Billy is on base, there’s certainly a lot of attention on him. Coco’s a pretty good situational hitter. He can put the ball in the hole, probably see a few more fastballs. He’s open to anything as far as where he hits in the lineup.
