‘Shore’ dance starts outside and leads inside
Is home in the land, in our blood, in our history, in community? Performance artist Emily Johnson, a Native Alaskan descended from the Yup’ik people, takes on the meaning of home in “Shore,” a performance at ODC Theater that moves from outside to inside — literally starting outside the theater.
The shows at ODC are the culmination of a week of community events, including a nature restoration project as well as a curated reading by local authors, organized by Johnson around the idea of connecting performers and audiences to the land and to each other.
