Food bank to install processing facility for retail wing

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire Food Bank is working to install a revenue-generating food-processing unit within its warehouse in Manchester.

Executive Director Mel Gosselin says the Food Factory will be the nonprofit's retail production line. It would process bulk dry goods and ship them to food pantries across the country.

Bulk ingredients such as oats, rice and pasta brought in from manufacturers would be made into dry-packaged meals. Volunteers have been packaging meals manually without a dedicated space.

The retail space would be the second such facility in the country.

Gosselin says the processing portion won't impact the functions of the food bank and donated food won't be sold.
