San Jose State falls to Utah State as skid hits four
Rollie Worster had 15 points, Brock Miller added 12 and Sean Bairstow chipped in 11 as host Utah State defeated San Jose State for the second time this week, winning 85-52 on Wednesday.
Neemias Queta had nine points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and four assists for the Aggies (5-3, 2-0 Mountain West), who won their fourth consecutive game.
Richard Washington had 11 points for the Spartans (1-4, 0-2), who have lost four in a row. Caleb Simmons added nine rebounds. Seneca Knight had nine rebounds.
Utah State jumped to a 13-3 lead in the first six minutes as San Jose State missed six of its first seven shots. The Aggies extended their lead to 18 on two occasions before taking a 42-25 lead into halftime.
The Spartans, who shot 23.4% (15-for-64), allowed the first two baskets of the second half and trailed by at least 20 points the rest of the way.
Washington State 62, Northwestern State 52: Efe Abogidi had 15 points and 12 rebounds and the host Cougars extended their best start since beginning 14-0 in 2007-08 by defeating the Demons (1-10). Isaac Bonton added 13 points and Myles Warren had 11 for Washington State (8-0).
#5 Villanova 85, Marquette 68: Collin Gillespie scored 22 points as the visiting Wildcats (8-1, 3-0) beat the Golden Eagles (5-5, 1-3). Jamal Cain scored 15 points for Marquette.
#8 Tennessee 80, South Carolina Upstate 60: Victor Bailey scored 18 points and the host Volunteers (6-0) used a 12-2 run midway through the second half to pull away from the Spartans (0-8).
