Oxford hires educator for his 'dream job' as superintendent
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — A north Mississippi school district has chosen one of its longtime educators to become the next superintendent, and he describes the position as his “dream job.”
Oxford School District trustees announced Wednesday that Bradley Roberson had been selected from a field of nine applicants to become superintendent July 1, the Oxford Eagle reported. The current superintendent, Brian Harvey, said in November that he will retire June 30 from the district that has about 4,500 students.
“I’ve worked in this profession and in this district for 20 years, for this moment... My dream job was to be the superintendent in the Oxford School District — to serve this community in this capacity," Roberson said.
Roberson is a Ripley native. He moved to Oxford in 1998 to attend the University of Mississippi. He and his family have lived in Oxford ever since, except for his time as Senatobia High School principal from 2013 to 2015.
“No one doubts that Bradley is a brilliant educator and a hard worker,” said Oxford school board President Ray Hill. “What sets Bradley apart, however, is his passion for the Oxford School District and his belief that every child deserves nothing less than the best educational experience we can offer.”
Roberson was an Oxford High School math teacher from 2000 to 2009. He was associate athletic director from 2009 to 2011, and during that period, became a assistant principal at the high school for one year.
In 2011, he became the assistant principal at Oxford Middle School until moving to Senatobia. Roberson became Oxford High principal in 2015 and assistant superintendent in 2018.
