Soccer roundup: Birmingham boys’, Harvard-Westlake girls’ advance to Division I regional semifinals

No. 1-seeded Birmingham Charter boys soccer team defeated No. 8 Godinez of Santa Ana 4-2 in the first round of the CIF State SoCal Regional boys soccer Division I playoffs Tuesday, and will now host Clovis High Thursday in the semifinal at 1 p.m.
El Camino Real fell to Mira Costa 7-6 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time.
In Division II, Hart High edged Sanger High on the road in penalty kicks, 4-3, after a 2-2 draw. The Indians will travel to Corona Santiago for the semifinal Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
In Division IV, No. 1-seeded Palmdale High advanced to the semifinal with a 4-0 win over Fowler High of Fresno. Palmdale will face Rancho Buena Vista Thursday at Antelope Valley College at 4 p.m.
In Division V, Sierra Canyon defeated Canoga Park 2-1 and will travel to Olympian High of Chula Vista Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the regional semifinal.
GIRLS SOCCER
No. 1-seeded Harvard-Westlake defeated Torrey Pines 1-0 thanks to a golden goal by Dani Quintero in the CIF State SoCal Regional Division I first round, which puts the Wolverines in a rematch of the Southern Section Division 1 final with Villa Park in the regional semifinal Thursday in Studio City at 5 p.m.

Granada Hills Charter – the Division I City Section champions – lost to Villa Park 7-0 in the first round.
In Division II, City Section DI runner-up Cleveland High lost to Downey 2-0. Saugus lost to Buchanan in penalty kicks 4-3 after a 3-3 draw.
In Division III, El Camino Real lost to Alta Loma in penalty kicks 4-2 after a scoreless draw.
In Division IV, Paraclete defeated Los Angeles CES 2-0 and will travel to San Dimas.
