We the People Trailer Teases Netflix’s Own Schoolhouse Rock
Netflix has created its own version of Schoolhouse Rock titled We The People. The original Schoolhouse Rock series first aired in 1973. The series aired on Saturday mornings as musical, educational short films. The series covered a wide range of subjects from grammar to math to history. However, one of the topics the series was most renowned for covering was the US government with songs like "I'm Just A Bill," "The Preamble," "Sufferin' 'Til Suffrage" and "The Great American Melting Pot."
In the trailer, Netflix dubbed We The People as a music series and "a civics remix." Much like the original Schoolhouse Rock, the series will have new, original music to inform viewers about aspects of the United States government through innovative, animated music videos. This time around, popular musicians will lend their hands to sing songs about political issues happening today. We The People has also embraced Schoolhouse Rock's fun music videos but has updated the series with more contemporary and vibrant artwork.
The trailer listed all of the artists and their songs which include "Change," (H.E.R.), "American Citizen" (Bebe Rexa), "Taxes" (Gordae), "Link" (Kyle), "Speak Your Mind" (Brandi Carlile), "Stronger" (Janelle Monáe), "The Miracle of Morning" (Amanda Gorman), "All Rise" (Andra Day), "These Are Your Rights (Adam Lambert) and "Checks and Balances" sung by Benjy Brooke and written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Brittany Howard, Daveed Diggs, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Rober Lopez. The series is a part of Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions deal with Netflix. In addition to the Obamas, Chris Nee and Kenya Barris are executive producers. We The People is fittingly set to land on Netflix on July 4.
