The X-Men's Deadliest Mutant Isn't Who Fans Think | Screen Rant
Warning! Spoilers ahead for X-Men #20
In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' X-Men, Forge just proved that he's one of the deadliest mutants in the Marvel Universe. Despite not making the cut in the recent X-Men election, Forge is an extremely formidable mutant, and his skill set and abilities can be downright scary at times. The sheer number of things that he can build and create on short notice is staggering, and the latest weapon he just designed for Mystique is no exception, further confirming that Forge is not a mutant that should ever be underestimated.
X-Men #20 from writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Francesco Mobili begins with a flashback to when Mystique first made her request to Forge to make her a weapon with extreme capabilities, needing something that does "the most damage under every fathomable circumstance." The reason she needs a weapon capable of such immense damage is that she's been tasked by Charles Xavier and Magneto to infiltrate Orchis and destroy the Nimrod Sentinels, who pose an extreme threat to everything mutantkind has worked for with their island nation of Krakoa. After an interesting conversation with Forge about his process for making weapons, he reveals that he can make something truly effective in the fight.
Forge was able to create a microscopic singularity generator in a matter of days, and Mystique unveils the new weapon to Xavier and Magneto before being sent to take care of Orchis and prevent the Nimrod Sentinel from coming back online. It seems as though Forge was able to intuit exactly what Mystique was looking for, seeing as how her mission needs to leave no doubt behind, ensuring with absolute certainty the Nimrods' destruction. Thanks to Forge's work, Mystique explains that her new weapon essentially creates a miniature black hole, seemingly capable of getting the job done with devastatingly absolute results.
The fact that Forge could destabilize the sun if he wanted to is crazy. His abilities are incredibly unique and ridiculously powerful, and it's insane that he's so often overlooked. Thankfully, Forge also has a strong moral compass these days, which is good to have when a mutant like him has the ability to create anything he wants. However, despite Mystique's best efforts and the bomb working as designed, Nimrod proved to be already online and too powerful, and the shapeshifter failed in her mission, forcing Xavier and Magneto to go into crisis mode now that Nimrod has sworn vengeance and the end of all mutants.
In any case, seeing Forge getting the spotlight is pretty exciting, and he definitely deserves more time in the pages of X-Men comics. Hopefully, Forge will be able to continue doing what he does best in future issues and create more weapons to fight back against foes such as Orchis, especially considering the amount of fear Xavier and Magneto have in regards to such strong, powerful, and merciless Sentinels.
