DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 1 Hits Nintendo Switch Today

0

The first of DOOM Eternal's DLCs is making its way to the Nintendo Switch today. DOOM EternalThe Ancient Gods Part One released last year on other platforms, but given the Nintendo Switch version released much later than the main game, it's no surprise that the post-launch content is lagging a bit behind as well.

It's rather impressive DOOM Eternal is even able to run on Nintendo Switch, as it's such a chaotic and gorgeous-looking game on other platforms. Port studio Panic Button noted DOOM Eternal was its most challenging port to date and it's likely only growing to be more and more difficult as the team continues to support the game with the DLC packs that Bethesda has been releasing.

The Nintendo Switch version of DOOM Eternal is getting part one of the Ancient Gods DLC today. Both parts of this DLC are available on other platforms already, but Nintendo Switch players can now experience it for the first time. The DLC was rather acclaimed upon its initial release, so as long as it can hold up under the performance of the Nintendo Switch, it should be a pretty fun new experience for the one-year-old game. The announcement was made during today's Nintendo Direct, allowing the iconic shooter to get a new burst of momentum on the handheld platform.

DOOM Eternal has been a huge success thus far and it's likely that will only continue as Bethesda continues to offer support for it on all kinds of platforms. It's safe to say a third entry in this new soft-reboot of DOOM is probably on the way as well, but Bethesda hasn't officially confirmed anything. That said, there's definitely plenty of possibilities following the story of Eternal which really greatly expanded on the lore of the universe and introduced a lot of radical new elements.

DOOM Eternal was definitely a standout title in 2020 and the fact that it continues to remain relevant is pretty impressive. Whether or not a third DOOM could run on Nintendo Switch when the last two have already been pushing it rather hard remains to be seen, but perhaps it could utilize the heavily rumored Nintendo Switch Pro. It's already heavily speculated that DoomGuy could come to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, so it's not impossible to imagine that Nintendo would try to get the next entry in the acclaimed series on its console in some way.
