Tottenham keen on £25.8m star, who flourished under Paulo Fonseca – report

Tottenham have joined the race to sign Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to reports in Italy.

The 24-year-old, who was recently named in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for the Euro’s before an injury forced him to withdraw, contributed to 20 goals in 47 appearances for Roma last season after an impressive campaign under incoming Spurs boss Paulo Fonseca.

Italian outlet La Repubblica, relayed by The Express, believe that Tottenham are keen on the playmaker, but face stiff competition from Liverpool, who’ve reportedly bid £25.8m for his services.

Roma finished seventh last season, but reached the Europa League semi-finals, with Pellegrini excelling in the competition by scoring three times and adding three assists, half of which came in the two legs against Manchester United.

With Fonseca’s appointment imminent, the Italian won’t be the last Roma player linked with Tottenham this summer, but with their lack of goals and general creativity from the central areas last term, this would appear an excellent start from both Fonseca and Fabio Paratici.
