Supergirl is Going on a Medieval Rampage | Screen Rant
Spoilers for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1 ahead!
On a distant, medievalesque world, Supergirl finds herself embroiled in a blood feud, and it could have dire consequences for those she loves. The titular hero returns in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, on sale now in print and digital.
As most comic fans know, Supergirl is Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. Since her debut in 1959’s Action Comics #252, she has operated largely in her cousin’s shadow but has begun stepping out of it in recent years. She acquired a harder edge during the New 52 era, with a chip on her shoulder over her cousin’s success. But her journey would ultimately be one of peace, for it was revealed during the recently concluded Future State event that Supergirl will one day help found a community built on the idea of healing and change and will serve as an inspiration to countless beings from across the universe. It was a glorious destiny for someone usually overlooked. This beautiful end is a long way off, however, and in the meantime, Supergirl gets caught up in a revenge story on a medieval planet.
The planet, which is never named, roughly resembles Earth’s Middle Ages. The technology is basic at best - no running water and no electricity. Ruthye, an inhabitant of the world, has witnessed her father killed at the hands of Krem, an agent of the king, who killed Ruthye’s father because he spoke ill of the king. Ruthye travels to a tavern where she attempts to hire a barbarian bounty hunter, but he turns out to be less than honorable. As he is walking away, Supergirl, who was drinking in the tavern to celebrate her 21st birthday, intervenes and the two come to blows. Supergirl leaves the tavern and returns to her spaceship with Krypto. The bounty hunter, who was revealed to be working with Krem, attacks Supergirl and Krypto, injuring them both and stealing Supergirl’s ship.
Supergirl is about to give a whole new meaning to the phrase “going medieval.” It usually refers to someone getting violent, and that most certainly will happen when Supergirl catches up with Krem; but it also can refer to the world Supergirl finds herself on. She is about to embark on a journey that has the potential to be dark and violent, much like the world she is stranded on. Compounding her problems, the planet is under a red sun, which deprives Supergirl of her powers.
Writer Tom King, artist Bilquis Everly, and colorist Mat Lopes have put Supergirl in one of the most nightmarish positions ever: stranded and powerless on a medieval world. So now she has little choice but to go on a rampage on a distant, medieval world.
