Spurs now ‘evaluating’ Valverde and one other candidate for manager’s job – report
Tottenham are keeping tabs on Ernesto Valverde and Ralf Rangnick after giving up on Gennaro Gattuso for the club’s vacant manager’s job, according to reports in Italy.
On Friday morning, The Athletic revealed Spurs had pulled out of talks with Gattuso, possibly because of fan backlash on social media.
Later that day, ESPN claimed Tottenham still hold an interest in appointing Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, despite the fact the Dutchman recently signed a contract extension at the Amsterdam Arena.
And now, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is suggesting there are two names currently being ‘evaluated’ by Spurs: Valverde and Rangnick.
Valverde has been out of work since leaving Barcelona last year – he won two La Liga titles with the Spanish giants.
Rangnick, meanwhile, could return to coaching after a spell as head of sport and development for the Red Bull football group – his last management role was with RB Leipzig in Germany.
Both candidates would be sensible permanent replacements for Jose Mourinho, but as we’ve learned in recent weeks, nothing is done until it’s officially announced.
