Son of murdered Daniel Morgan brands report into dad’s death a ‘national shame’
THE son of murdered Daniel Morgan branded findings of a report into his dad’s axe death a “national shame”.
Daniel Jnr, 37, labelled the Met Police’s culture “cancerous” and said Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick should resign.
Private detective Mr Morgan was axed to death in a pub car park in Sydenham, South East London, in March 1987.
Despite five separate probes, no one has been brought to justice.
This week, a report called the Met “institutionally corrupt”.
The eight-year inquiry, ordered by former Home Secretary Theresa May, found the original murder investigation was riddled with mistakes and dogged by corruption — which the Met tried to bury.
The report said: “Concealing or denying failings, for the sake of the organisation’s public image, is dishonesty on the part of the organisation . . . and constitutes a form of institutional corruption.”

It said the Met had placed greater emphasis on protecting its reputation than solving the murder of Mr Morgan, meaning his family “suffered grievously”.
It is thought Daniel had been investigating bent police.
The Morgan family said they had been failed by a culture of corruption and cover-up.
