Cyberpunk 2077 NPCs Can Tackle A Car After Patch 1.23, Thanks To Glitch

0

A video circulating on Reddit of Cyberpunk 2077 after patch 1.23 shows an NPC tackle a player's car, forcing the vehicle into a wild mid-air spin. Patch 1.23 is the latest in a long line of updates to Cyberpunk 2077, the last fix being update 1.22 at the end of April.

CD Projekt Red's sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 launched in a horrendous state late in 2020, to the chagrin of millions of fans. Though the game was relatively functional on PC and current-gen consoles, the Xbox One and PS4 builds suffered tremendously. Sony opted to pull the game entirely from its PlayStation store on December 17, 2020, and it only recently decided to put the game back up for sale beginning June 21. CD Projekt Red has worked to regularly patch and update Cyberpunk in an attempt to eventually make the game fully functional. However, fans have lamented both the slow progress and the seemingly minimal improvements made by the updates, which by all accounts have still left the game riddled with bugs.

Although patch 1.23 fixed a number of quest-related issues, a hilarious video making the rounds on the Cyberpunk subreddit illustrates the still-broken nature of the game. The video, posted by user itslenail, begins with the player approaching an NPC-controlled vehicle on the street in the Little China area. After throwing the driver out of the car, the camera cuts to third-person view. The other NPC, who was just sitting in the passenger seat before the cut, is no longer there. Instead, the NPC appears to run up to the right side of the car from off-screen. In what appears to be a failed attempt to enter the vehicle, the NPC model somehow becomes embedded in the side of the car.

This causes the car - with the player inside and the model attached - to go spinning wildly in all directions. The car violently slams into nearby buildings and the pavement before somehow entering a hover-like state, all while spiraling uncontrollably. As the flaming car finally comes to a stop upside-down on the ground, the player exits the vehicle. Fate cruelly twists the knife by dropping the player under the map in classic Cyberpunk fashion. Itslenail plummets into the void before respawning nearby.

While it's entertaining for viewers to watch the hilarious and unpredictable consequences of coding errors in a broken game play out on-screen, it's an unfortunate reality for players across the world who purchased Cyberpunk with the expectation that it would be fully functional. Players aren't the only frustrated parties, as investors have also voiced displeasure with the handling of the game's rollout. Hopefully the ongoing updates alleviate the issues in the long term, but the short-term outlook for Cyberpunk 2077 remains poor.
