Where To Watch Evil Season 2 | Screen Rant
Evil was a big hit for CBS during season 1, so much so that network parent company Viacom has changed how season 2 will be able to be watched. It's become so prominent a belief in the last several decades that it's almost become a running gag, that being CBS' reliance on formula-based procedural dramas. There's the CSI shows, the NCIS family, Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods, SEAL Team, SWAT, and the list goes on and on. Granted, it's not hard to see why they keep going back to that well, as most of those shows are big rating successes.
On the surface, Evil may seem like yet another CBS procedural, albeit with a supernatural twist. Kristen (Katja Herbers), a skeptical psychologist, teams up with David (Mike Colter), a priest in training, and Ben (Aasif Mandvi), a tech expert, to investigate and document reported supernatural cases for the Catholic Church. This could've led to a fairly standard network TV drama, but thankfully Evil came complete with a creative and sometimes playful spirit, and a willingness to showcase macabre, demonic, and legitimately unsettling imagery of a kind seen nowhere else in CBS' line-up.
Evil was a big success with both critics and audiences, and it getting a second season always seemed like a formality. However, thanks to the Coronavirus, Evil fans have had to wait about a year and a half between the season 1 finale and the season 2 premiere. Those same fans also won't be able to just tune into CBS at the same time and watch each new episode as they did before, because Evil is heading to the world of streaming.
Those used to watching Evil for free on their local CBS affiliate will likely be at least somewhat annoyed to learn that season 2 won't be available to watch that way. Evil season 2 will be streaming exclusively on Paramount Plus , the streaming service owned by Viacom - the parent company to both CBS and Paramount. Replacing CBS All Access, Paramount+ debuted in March 2021, and is still finding its feet in the now densely populated race for studio-owned streaming dominance. While moving to streaming only might seem like a demotion, it's actually the opposite, as Evil has so much positive buzz surrounding it, and a loyal enough fanbase, that it's seen as a show that could draw in new subscribers to Paramount+.
Evil season 2 premieres June 20, 2021 on Paramount+, and unlike some other shows making the jump from CBS to the streamer, won't air any new episodes on CBS before switching over. In other words, Evil fans will need to make sure they subscribe to Paramount+ prior to season 2's premiere if they want to keep up with their favorite show. Paramount Plus offers a cheaper tier for $4.99 per month, although the tradeoff is having to watch ads. Ads can be avoided entirely for the more expensive monthly cost of $9.99. For those used to watching Evil live on CBS though, ads may not be a big deal. Considering how well Evil season 1 performed on Netflix, it'll be interesting to see if CBS' decision to move it online ultimately pays off.
