Joey Lucchesi Placed on Injured List, Albert Almora Activated

The Mets activated Albert Almora Jr. from the 10-day injured list and placed Joey Lucchesi on the IL, the team announced between doubleheader games on Saturday.

Luis Rojas said before Game 1 that Almora would likely be activated before Game 2, and that the corresponding move hadn’t been decided yet. Lucchesi’s placement on the IL, however, comes as a surprise. He was just starting to turn his season around, putting together a few nice outings after a rough start to the year.

He pitched on Friday, going 5 1/3 scoreless innings and lowering his season ERA to 4.46.

Almora helps the Mets’ outfield depth, which has been sparse due to injuries. He’s struggled in his limited time with the Mets this season though, putting up a batting line of just .048/.091/.048 in 22 plate appearances.
