Flash Movie Art Imagines Cyborg is Back in the Speedster’s Solo Film
A new work of fan art inspired by The Flash movie has imagined the announcement of Cyborg being readded to the cast. Played by Ezra Miller, the DCEU's version of Barry Allen debuted via cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Miller reprised the role in earnest for both the 2017 theatrical and subsequent, more well-received Snyder Cut versions of Justice League. After some time in flux, work on a solo Flash movie took a huge leap forward in July 2019. Influenced by the popular Flashpoint storyline, The Flash will run full speed into the DCEU multiverse of shows and movies. With Miller already confirmed to return, Andy Muschietti signed on to direct from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson.
The extent of that idea was highlighted by confirmation that Michael Keaton's Batman would appear. Sasha Calle was also announced to be playing a cinematic version of Supergirl. Furthermore, Miller's cameo in the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths event has looked set to receive a cinematic spin. For months, rumors have persisted that there will be at least a cameo from Grant Gustin's Barry Allen in The Flash movie. Only the more concrete additions have recently been spotlighted by Muschietti, however. Posting on social media, he revealed the official costume logos for Keaton's Batman, Calle's Supergirl, and Miller's Flash himself.
Popular digital artist BossLogic has now officially riffed on those announcements. Taking to Twitter, he shared an image of Cyborg's logo as though it was an official post from Muschietti. The image displayed the usual level of quality fans have come to expect from BossLogic — glimpsed in other viral works of art and even some official DCEU marketing. He captioned the image with a pair of eyes emoji and tagged Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, emphasizing the post's inspiration for those who may miss it. Check it out below:
Like Miller, Fisher similarly debuted in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before returning for Justice League. As part of the original DCEU plan, Fisher was supposed to headline a solo Cyborg film and also appear in The Flash movie. In the years since, however, Warner Bros overhauled their slate and scrapped the former. Subsequently, Cyborg's role was removed from The Flash movie. That particular move came amid Fisher's ongoing campaign to hold certain figures accountable for his poor on-set and behind-the-scenes experience — primarily during reshoots overseen by Joss Whedon. Fans have consistently rallied to Fisher's side, insisting his The Flash movie role be restored and that the DCEU needs Fisher's Cyborg.
It's hard to fault such logic. After all, Fisher proved why it was wrong to have shortchanged him in the Justice League theatrical release. In Zack Snyder's Justice League, there was little doubt that he turned in an exceptional, standout performance. He also offered a representatively meaningful character on several fronts, one that could have gone on to be a landmark favorite among cinematic superheroes. Whether or not such aforementioned campaigns ultimately bear fruit shall remain to be seen. After all, with what Fisher would need to even consider Cyborg's return made clear, and Warner Bros eager to just move on, reconciliation has seemed extremely unlikely. Still, Fisher's fans will no doubt continue to stand by him. And, as filming on The Flash movie races on over the coming months, they'll likely embrace BossLogic's art as a beautiful, rallying show of support.
