'Butcher of 1988' elected Iran's new ultra-conservative President

EBRAHIM Raisi, the so-called "butcher of 1988", was elected as Iran's new ultra-conservative president last night though pro-democracy activists claimed mass boycotts by frustrated Iranians had stolen any pretence of the regime's democratic legitimacy.
