‘That’s not helpful’ – Roy Keane suggests Harry Kane could be distracted by Spurs situation
Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has suggested that Harry Kane has looked a ‘shadow of himself’ with his performances at Euro 2020 and it could be down to the distraction over his future.
Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has been hotly debated over the last month after Sky Sports claimed that the forward had once again told the club that he wanted to leave and seek a new challenge elsewhere.
The 27-year-old is yet to score in either of England’s opening two Euro 2020 fixtures and has also been substituted by Gareth Southgate in each match.
Keane has claimed that the Three Lions captain does not look fit and appears to be playing without a spring in his step, according to Keane.
Kane headed into the tournament having won the Premier League golden boot, having scored 23 goals in 35 top flight fixtures (transfermarkt).
Keane told ITV Sport (18/6/21 – 22:00): “He said he wanted to leave Spurs, maybe he’s been distracted by that,’ Keane said. ‘That could be an energy zapper if you think you’re leaving the club or having talks with another club. That’s not helpful.
“He doesn’t (Kane look fit) he looked leggy. He doesn’t look up to speed, on his heels all the time,’
“For England to compete in this competition you need your star men to perform. We’ve seen Lukaku and De Bruyne turn up, Ronaldo, Kane wasn’t at his best.
“And I’m glad Gareth took him off because there’s this talk of him being undroppable, he’s the star, he’s the main man. If he’s not performing you get him off. Rashford gave them a little bit more energy but still not enough.”
