Why deals from Amazon during Prime Day 2021 aren't always the best option when you need them now

Amazon Prime Day 2021 takes place on June 21 and June 22, offering thousands of deals on products.

With that said, other retailers like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy are offering their own competing deals on identical or similar products. And they have a very interesting leg up over Amazon in that they offer the ability to buy online and pick up (usually) the same day in-store all over the country. Home Depot hasn't announced any sort of Prime Day competing sale yet, but the retailer is also a prime example of ordering online and picking up in stores can save you time.

I use Amazon Prime as much as the next person, but there are often times I want or need a product that very same day, whether its kitchen wares or home appliances that break, new tech I'm excited to try out, or stuff for my baby that can't wait for Amazon's standard two-day delivery. Or, the product I want simply doesn't have Amazon's same-day delivery option.

The following retailers all allow you to order a product online, search for availability in a nearby store, and select the option to pick it up the same day. And considering these stores are offering many of the same, or in some cases better, deals than Amazon Prime Day, there's no need to wait for delivery.

Here are in-store pick-up policies for a few physical retailers with competing sales during Prime Day:

Walmart

Walmart's Deals for Days event starts on June 20 and runs through to June 23, and it's one of the best times of the year to save on tech, home goods, tools, outdoor gear, and fashion. During Walmart's Deals for Days sale, you'll find comparable deals that you'd find during Amazon Prime Day.

Walmart's in-store pickup policy notes that not all products and deals are available for pickup, and in-store pickup ranges between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week, at most locations. Make sure to bring a valid government ID and the email Walmart sends notifying that your order is ready for pickup. You also can't change the store location after making an order.

Target

Target's Deal Days event kicks off June 20 and ends on June 22. During Target's Deal Days, you'll find savings on a huge variety of products that compete with Amazon's Prime Day.

Target's in-store pickup policy is similar to Walmart's in that you need a government ID and the email Target sends notifying that your order is ready for pickup. However, not all products with deals will be available for pickup in stores.

Best Buy

Best Buy's Bigger Deal Savings Event runs from June 15 through June 22 and largely focuses on sales for tech products.

Best Buy's in-store pickup policy still require shoppers to wear face masks when they come pick up their orders. To pick up your order, bring your ID, credit card, and order number to the store. And while the advantage of ordering from a nearby store is same-day pickup, Best Buy will hold your item up to five days if needed.
