Assassin's Creed Valhalla Used To Promote Tourism In Ireland
The Assassin’s Creed series has taken players all around the world, and now Discover Ireland is using this fact, along with footage from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, to promote tourism in its country. The Emerald Isle was brought to life in the recent Wrath Of The Druids DLC expansion, in which Eivor faces off against a sinister Druid cult named the Children of Danu.
While it might not be the most historically accurate of sources, the Assassin’s Creed series is noteworthy for its use of real-life locations and events, ranging from the Italian Renaissance to the American Revolution. These real-world settings have even been utilized in special game features, like the recently announced Discovery Tour Mode that allows Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players to experience life as a Viking without having to deal with the enemies of the game’s main campaign. This mode builds off of similar features in previous games by allowing players to carry out daily tasks that citizens of the era would have had to live with.
According to GamesRadar, this devotion to realism has now caught the eye of the Ireland tourism board, which has put together a marketing ad using footage from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Wrath Of The Druids. Real-life landmarks like Dublin, Benbulben, and the Giant's Causeway are shown via the game’s incredible visuals as a narrator encourages gamers to check out their actual counterparts. Finally, the brief trailer (which is available to watch on Discover Ireland's YouTube page), ends with the hashtag #FillYourHeartWithIreland. Aside from promoting real-life vacation travel, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been gearing up for yet another expansion with The Siege Of Paris, in which players will participate in the most challenging battle in Viking history as they face off against the armies of Charles the Fat in the Kingdom of the West Franks. Additional rumors state that this and other DLC expansions will have Eivor visibly age over time, giving players the feeling of controlling a battle-hardened warrior progressing through the years and possibly even decades.
In the meantime, having in-game footage from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla be used in an actual tourism commercial is a neat idea, especially given how hard the talented people at Ubisoft have worked in recreating the rich landscapes of countries like Ireland. Fans of the game who aren't familiar with the region might be interested in checking the country out once the COVID pandemic is brought more fully under control. Players can see these landscapes for themselves in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Wrath Of The Druids, which can serve as a good primer for taking a tour through their real-life counterparts.
