Disney Parks: 10 Updated Movie Experiences To Explore
The Walt Disney Company continues to expand its properties both on and off of the big screen. While Disney+ has been a major move to establish the entertainment giant as the leader of the industry, the Walt Disney Parks have also been allowed to evolve and innovate when needed.
There are plenty of attractions that perhaps need updating and a variety of movies that have yet to have a ride or attraction focused around them. Over the next few years, Disney will continue to push forward into unique territory, as other experiences are created for fans and familiar attractions are developed into something brand new.
10 Avengers Campus (Walt Disney Studios Park, Disney California Adventure)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe and, to a greater extent Marvel Studios, is certainly one of the most important brands that Disney currently owns. To take advantage of that, they have sought to bring these fan-favorite movies to the Disney Parks like never before.
The Avengers Campus project will be rolled out in two major parks, at both Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris and Disney Calfornia Adventure. With the latter having already opened, fans can walk through Doctor Strange's mystical ruins, have a bite to eat at Ant-Man's restaurant, and meet some of Marvel's most memorable characters. Plus there's an artistic New York-inspired hotel debuting.
9 Moana: Journey Of Water (Walt Disney World's Epcot)
While there are plenty of movies that once had attractions at the Parks which have since been abandoned, it's quite shocking to know that Moana has never had an official experience at any of the Disney-owned resorts. That's soon to be changed with the Journey Of Water project.
With the attraction being built at Epcot, it's now visible to guests, suggesting it is near completion. While there's no opening date scheduled, audiences are eager to try out this aquatic adventure, which is pitched as an interactive maze tracking the beauty of the organic water cycle.
8 Arendelle: World Of Frozen (Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, Walt Disney Studios Park)
Frozen is another highly successful franchise for the Walt Disney Company. The Parks had previously capitalized on the brand's popularity with rides such as Frozen Ever After. But, the next stage of Disney's planning involves a major expansion to construct Arendelle: World Of Frozen.
This brand new land promises to take guests into the heart of Elsa and Anna's kingdom. Being built in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Paris, some of the highlights of the attraction will include (depending on the Park) the Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs roller coaster and a Frozen themed restaurant.
7 Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (Disneyland Paris)
While there's always a possibility that Disney will look at expanding the pre-existing Galaxy's Edge Star Wars lands, the company already has plans in place to bring the galaxy far far away to Disneyland Paris. Details are currently sparse on what to expect though.
While a carbon copy of the US version of the Park is unlikely, reports indicate that Disney will be producing a smaller version of Galaxy's Edge in France, without the many interactive capabilities fans are familiar with. This will likely tie into Disney's Space Mountain, which was renovated to become Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain.
6 Pandora: The World Of Avatar Expansion (Disney's Animal Kingdom)
Disney's Animal Kingdom successfully launched Pandora: The World Of Avatar which is of course inspired by James Cameron's record-breaking blockbuster, Avatar. With the director's sequels in the pipeline, there are reports that Cameron is pushing hard for an expansion to the sci-fi Na'vi land.
It would make a lot of sense to capitalize on the movie releases by providing additional experiences for fans to enjoy in Pandora. Rumors indicate that Disney is firmly considering their options, looking to perhaps expand into nearby parking lots to give additional room to develop the fantastical world further.
5 Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (Epcot)
Fans of Pixar's hit, Ratatouille will have probably already visited Euro Disneyland to experience Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure firsthand. With guests getting shrunk down to the size of rodents, they will travel within a rat, over the roof-tops and through the Kitchens of Paris.
The Parks are known to steal from one another and indeed be inspired by each other's attractions, so it shouldn't be too surprising that Disney is implementing Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in Epcot. As part of the Frech Pavillion in the Walt Disney World Park, the attraction will make its grand debut in 2021.
4 Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (Epcot)
Marvel is continuing to try and have a big impact on the Disney Parks and Epcot is getting its own share of the comic book mayhem. Guardians Of The Galaxy-themed attractions are nothing new, with the Tower Of Terror getting a Mission: Breakout makeover.
There is now a brand new ride titled Cosmic Rewind which is being developed at Epcot. The family-friendly experience will be largely built around the team's mission, with the coaster featuring both a reverse launch and a 360-degree spin. There's even test footage of the ride available to watch!
3 Tron Lightcycle Power Run (Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom)
The Tron Lightcycle Power Run is currently an attraction that guests can experience in Shanghai Disney, based upon the world-renowned Tron series. Walt Disney World has started construction on their own version of the ride, at Magic Kingdom.
The experience is said to be a clone of the version in China, meaning that guests will know exactly what they can come to expect from the attraction. It's been recognized for its beautiful designs and high speeds; the aesthetic of the ride takes full advantage of the futuristic, neon cinematography of Tron.
2 Splash Mountain: Princess And The Frog (Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom)
Disney's Splash Mountain might be an iconic attraction, but it is based upon the company's problematic Song Of The South film. Much in need of an update, Disney Parks are starting to adapt all the Splash Mountain attractions, drawing inspiration instead from The Princess And The Frog.
With concept art indicating that the ride will be re-themed to match the swamps of Lousiana, guests will track Tiana's own journey, meeting characters from the film and reveling in the stunning array of songs featured in the production. Reports indicate that the planned changes are actually being sped up!
1 Mary Poppins (Epcot)
Despite the historical significance of Mary Poppins, the feature has very little presence at any Walt Disney Parks currently. That looks to change with an expansion of Walt Disney World's Epcot, with the World Showcase's Little England receiving the update.
Although developments were postponed due to the ongoing global situation, original reports suggested that guests would go back in time to Cherry Tree Lane and experience England like never before. There was also a suggestion of a flat ride being implemented in the area.
