Irish Eventing rider Cathal Daniels has taken a ninth place finish in the hugely prestigious Longines Luhmühlen five-star competition in Germany. Riding The Irish Sport Horse LEB Lias Jewel (pictured), Daniels scored 38.1 in the opening Dressage phase which put him in 20th position. A brilliant clear Cross Country round on Saturday inside the time saw the Galway native rocket up to fifth place overall. Daniels picked up eight penalties in the final jumping phase which saw him finish ninth overall on a score of 46.1. Michael Ryan and Barnahown Corn Hill (ISH) also completed the demanding three days of competition and finished in 13th place with a score of 68.6. Victory went to Britain’s Mollie Summerland and Charly van ter Heiden on a score of 30.2.
