Armenians head to polls to elect new parliament as snap elections kick off
All the polling stations in Armenia opened at 8:00am local time on Sunday as the country is heading to early polls to elect a new National Assembly and government.
“As many as 2,593,573 voters are on the voting register,” the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Tigran Mukuchyan, said.
Twenty-one political parties and four alliances are running for election with overall 2,510 candidates. Mukuchyan said that 12 out of the 2,008 electoral precincts, which are in penitentiary instutitons, will open later today.
Eight international and foreign observation missions with an estimated 833 international observers will monitor the voting process.
