Future of two Manchester United players “at risk” as Solskjaer aims to revamp squad

Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Donny Van De Beek will be allowed to leave Old Trafford if the right bids come through this summer. 

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is preparing a squad that can challenge for trophies in the upcoming campaign. 

The Red Devils have been without a trophy for the last four years and they are eager to break this drought this season. 

Solskjaer has stressed the importance of bolstering the squad in this transfer window.

A few world-class players like Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Declan Rice have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

As new arrivals are imminent, Solskjaer will be sanctioning a few departures as well. 

According to ESPN, when agents made enquiries about Martial and Van De Beek, they got a response from the club that “every player has a realistic valuation.”

Even though the manager has insisted that he does not see many departures, realistic offers can prompt United to sell fringe players.

Martial had a great 2019/20 season where he scored 17 goals and produced six assists in 32 Premier League games.

However, he failed to replicate that form this past season, finding the back of the net merely four times.

He suffered regular injuries which never allowed him to settle into the team.

It is the opposite story with Van De Beek.

The Dutch international was available for the most part of the season but failed to break into the starting lineup due to intense competition in the centre of the park.

If Paul Pogba extends his current contract with United, Van De Beek’s future at Old Trafford will come under serious question.

Having said that, pulling the plug on the 24-year old midfielder’s time at United after just one season won’t be a great decision.
