The Mets have added a catcher to their farm system, just days after Tomas Nido went on the injured list with a wrist injury.
According to the Mets official Twitter account, the team claimed Chance Sisco off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. Sisco was immediately optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.
Across five major league seasons, Sisco has never played more than 63 games in one season. His career slashline of .199/.319/.339 leaves much to be desired, but the move seems more for organizational depth than anything else at this point.
In 2021, Sisco has just 10 hits in 65 at bats, while also walking 6 times for the Orioles. He was designated for assignment by Baltimore last week.
The Santiago High School product was a 2nd Round draft selection in 2013 by Baltimore. His best season in the minor leagues came in 2014 with Delmarva of the South Atlantic League. In 114 games that season, Sisco batted .340/.406/.448 with 27 doubles.
As a corresponding roster move, the Mets transferred J.D. Davis to the 60-Day IL. He is eligible to return to the team on July 1. Mets manager Luis Rojas said pregame on Friday that Davis recently began hitting off a tee, and has been progressing well each day.
