VanDerveer, others recall women's basketball's evolution with Title IX

In large measure, Title IX helped VanDerveer achieve those dreams. “It basically determined my life’s journey,” she said.

She has won 1,125 games during stops at Idaho, Ohio State and Stanford. She passed Tennessee’s legendary Pat Summitt to become the all-time women’s college wins leader this past season.

She also won her third NCAA title in March when the Cardinal edged Arizona 54-53 in the final at the Alamodome in San Antonio in front of an average audience of four million viewers on ESPN.
