No more curfew after quiet weekend on South Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — No curfew will be in place on South Beach this weekend as spring break comes to an end, city officials announced Tuesday.

Miami Beach City Manager Alina Hudak said she will not extend the state of emergency that was declared last week following two shootings that injured five people in the city's South Beach entertainment district.

City officials had imposed a midnight curfew this past weekend from Thursday through Monday morning, along with a ban on retail alcohol sales after 6 p.m. Calm prevailed, and no significant violence or disorder was reported.

While the curfew and alcohol ban will be gone this weekend, the city still plans to limit parking in the area. The city also willl have increased police staffing through Sunday, which is considered the last day of this year's spring break.

Thousands of college students and other young people gather annually in Miami Beach for spring break.
