[Baseball] Rally Can't Hold Up

The Williamson baseball team clawed their way back to tie things up at 4-4 in the top of the 6th inning, only to see Bucks County take advantage of some defensive lapses in the bottom of the 6th inning to pull ahead for good in a 10-4 triumph in the second game of their doubleheader on Tuesday.  Bucks took the first game, 11-1.

A.J. Flynn pitched a stellar game in the opener, far better than the score would indicate, but Williamson's lack of hitting and several key errors proved to be too costly for the Mechanics to overcome.

"A.J. pitched great," shared Williamson head coach Doug Thompson.  "He pitched far better than the score would indicate.  He deserved much better.  We were really proud of his performance on the mound today."

Arriving a bit late due to a traffic jam, and playing in wind chills in the teens, Williamson's bats were never able to get going in the opener.

In the nightcap, and facing Bucks County's ace pitcher, the Mechanics fared much better, as they kept things close before evening things up late.  It was then that their defense faltered and the Centurions were able to pull away.  Not however, before Williamson had put a scare in them.

"Our defensive lapses killed us but our guys hung in there and battled.  I'm pleased with the all-around effort.  We have some things we have to correct but all-in-all, I'm really proud of the way the guys battled today. The season is young and we will only get better, " closed Thompson.

Williamson travels to Virginia on Saturday to take on Christendom College, before returning home on Sunday to take on Delaware County Community College in a 12:30 P.M. start.
