Veterans Super Sunday – 1 May

Royal Wootton Bassett Town will be hosting the fourth edition of its Veterans Super Sunday event at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground on Sunday 1 May, with two fixtures scheduled against the RAF FA Veterans.

Moving back to its usual May slot having been held in August last year, the event will again be raising money for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and will feature games involving Bassett's and the RAF's Over 35s and Over 50s Veterans sides.

The Over 50s will square off first on Super Sunday, with kick off for their Brian Johnson Memorial Shield match being 11.30am. That will be followed by the Over 35s fixture at 2pm.

Food and drink will then follow in the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground clubhouse.

After a double defeat back in August, Bassett will be hoping to claim victory in at least one match this time around.

Most important though is to continue the friendship that has developed between Bassett and the RAF's representative side and to raise money in aid of a worthy cause.

As a club, we are always proud to help build on the close ties between Royal Wootton Bassett and the armed forces, in particular the Royal Air Force.

Given the proximity to Lyneham, numerous individuals linked with the RAF – be they serving in the air force or their family members – have played, coached or volunteered for Bassett over the years.

And, in keeping with the town's motto – "We honour those who serve" – we hope hosting the Super Sunday event is a fitting way of showing our appreciation for everything the RAF have done for our town and country.

Although unable to be held in 2020, the Super Sunday event is the most important date in the calendar for Bassett's Veterans section, with strong relations having been built with the RAF FA. And the three previous editions in 2018, 2019 and 2021 have been extremely well supported.

It is therefore hoped that it will be the same again this time.
