Here is something to remember about Justin Fields. He’s human. Like any normal person, there are times when he’s tired, irritable, and isn’t interested in being perfect for a few minutes. Yet that doesn’t stop fans from constantly pestering him for autographs or pictures. It isn’t a crime when he gets such a request and isn’t over the top enthusiastic about it. Yet from what one supposed fan says, he is instant scum for feeling this way.
Gerard Gilfone, better known as Jersey Jerry, is a member of Barstool Sports. He hosts the Friend Of Jerry podcast. Before going any further, he is not a Bears fan. He is a Steelers fan. So the following video of his bashing Fields for “rolling his eyes” at taking a picture with him at the GT Sports Marketing event in New Jersey can be absorbed with context. To say nothing of the fact this guy has a well-known reputation for harassing players in the past.
Still can’t get over the way I got treated today from a Bears QB. I won’t even say his name because that name means nothing. He’s lucky he got a picture with me. pic.twitter.com/xnqphXEWnL
Oh, and just in case you need an idea of how classy this guy is?
Here’s one of his later tweets after fans started responding to his declaration of woe at being treated in such a fashion.
It’s laughable to see all these Bears fans come out today. These fans are the quickest in the nfl to turn on their players and coaches year after year. Can’t wait till week 8 to see them turn on “QB1”. Clocks ticking especially for Virginia ! Go win one for her ! @justnfields GFY
So you don’t like the reaction you’re getting and your first thought is to take a snipe at the organization’s well-respected owner. Sounds about right. Well, let’s just say the general reaction to his original video was not what Jerry was going for. Several people delivered straight body blows to the guy for having the audacity to think he had any clue what he was talking about.
A 40 year old man — who’s pinned tweet is him harassing T.J Watt — crying because a 22 year old rookie QB wasn’t doing cartwheels over taking a picture with him. @barstoolsports in a nutshell ???? https://t.co/CK31I7TiGq
That is the hilarious part of all of this. Justin Fields supposedly rolled his eyes but still took the picture. He didn’t have to, but he did it anyway. If Jerry were so indignant about the treatment, he wouldn’t have bothered to go ahead with the picture. The fact he did says everything you need to know. This was nothing more than a cry for attention. Fields has done way more good as a human being in his 23 years of existence than Jerry has ever managed in 45. This should remind everybody that being a fan doesn’t justify such a ridiculous sense of entitlement.
