PHOENIX (AP) _ Sprouts Farmers Market Inc. (SFM) on Wednesday reported first-quarter profit of $88.3 million.

The Phoenix-based company said it had net income of 79 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 72 cents per share.

The natural and organic food retailer posted revenue of $1.64 billion in the period, which matched Street forecasts.
