Guppy becomes five-time RWBTFC Fantasy Football champion!
Congratulations to Andrew Guppy, who – for the fifth time – claimed the RWBTFC Fantasy Football League title!
Fourth in 2019-20 and eleventh last season, it appeared as though Guppy had lost the midas touch that had seen him claim an unprecedented four titles in a span of just five seasons between 2014-15 and 2018-19.
However, he proved any doubters wrong as his Pepe Pig squad were a class above in 2021-22, achieving a hugely impressive total of 2,636 points.
And that figure was ultimately enough to seal top spot from Joe Mitchell's Average Joes by a comfortable 38 point margin.
Mitchell must be asking what he needs to do to finally record the first title that he has been threatening to take for the past couple of seasons. Instead, he is in danger of filling the role of perennial bridesmaid after also finishing as runner-up last season.
In 2020-21 Mitchell was pipped to the title by Steven Astin. And last year's champion had another outstanding season, but ultimately had to settle for a share of third place with Benny Brown as both totalled 2,574 points.
There was then a sizeable gap to fifth place, with that position being taken by Ian Poulton (2,519) who jumped above Alex Webb (2,505) courtesy of a strong final gameweek.
Pete Ramshaw (2,494), Roger Webb (2,464), Wesley van Vliet (2,462) and Paul Jack (2,448) rounded off the top ten.
Huge thanks go to the 151 entrants who took part in this year's Fantasy League – that figure is yet another record, eclipsing the 134 who entered in 2020-21.
The Fantasy League is always great fun and, importantly, remains free to enter. The league will be up and running again next season for its thirteenth edition – and we look forward to seeing even more participants.
