Queen’s Jubilee weather forecast: Street parties face washout with heavy rain on Sunday – but there’ll still be sunshine

STREET parties celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee look set for a washout this weekend as heavy rain sweeps the country.

Forecasters fear a rogue low pressure system will put a dampener on the historical weekend – but assured Brits there will still be sunshine.

The best of the weather is expected at the beginning of the bumper Bank Holiday on Thursday, with dry and warm conditions throughout the day.

But the Met Office warned heavy showers then look set to soak Brits from Friday through until Sunday.

Those in south-west England, Wales and Northern Ireland will bear the brunt of the wet weather and “unsettled” conditions.

And as Londoners honour the Queen’s seven-decade reign on Sunday with the Platinum Jubilee pageant, the Met predicts downpours will hit southern parts of the country.

So patriots partying al fresco may have to rethink their plans amid concerns the entire historical weekend could be a washout.

However, meteorologists say “good spells of sunshine” will persevere through the weekend rainfall and brighten up the country.

The mercury is expected to peak in the low 20s, before temperatures drop off quickly into the evenings.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “The latest outlook suggests that this plume of warm air could bring a spell of showers to southern areas overnight on Friday and into early Saturday, with some showers hanging around for a time on Saturday.

“Further showers are likely for southern areas on Sunday, perhaps the odd heavy one, most likely at this stage for the far southeast.”

But Brits can be assured the showers won’t be half as bad as the relentless rainfall during Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012.

Conditions were appearing to improve throughout the week before the bonanza begins on Thursday.

But the plume of warm air has hijacked any hopes of a Jubilee heatwave, after it was hoped the Platinum Jubilee week would be the hottest of the year.

Brisk winds are barrelling in from the north ahead of the extended Bank Holiday weekend.
