Man fatally shot in East Oakland

OAKLAND — A 25-year-old man fatally shot in East Oakland Monday night has been identified by police as Tavio Martin.

Martin, who lived in another area of  Oakland, was shot just after 7 p.m.  Monday while he was outside in the 1000 block of 101st Avenue, a primarily residential neighborhood.

Police said he was shot by another man who fled in a vehicle.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.

The killing is the 46th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  The California Highway Patrol has also investigated four homicides on Oakland freeways.  Last year at this time Oakland police had investigated 57 homicides in the city.
