BJP's Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi defeated SP's Mohd Asim Raja by a comfortable margin of 42,192 votes in Rampur whereas in Azamgarh, where the BSP was also in the fray- the party's Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirahua' defeated SP's Dharmendra Yadav- Akhilesh's cousin- by 8,679 votes.
