My neighbours keep filling up my bin with THEIR rubbish – it’s got so bad I’m thinking about putting a padlock on mine

A SINGLE mum is considering putting a padlock on her wheelie bin after her cheeky neighbours starting putting their rubbish in her bin.

The woman took to Mumsnet to complain about her situation, admitting she’s only recently moved to the area and was left shocked by her neighbours’ behaviour.

“So I’ve recently moved house, and my neighbours overall seem okay,” she began.

“I’m a single parent with one child and our council collects the recycling bin one week and the general waste the following week.”

She added that on occasion, she only puts the recycling bin out monthly because she doesn’t “always fill the bin 100% for both collections”.

The week before last, the woman was working four shifts back to back and didn’t put out her recycling because she knew the bin wasn’t full.

My neighbour cried after claiming I'd cut ivy from HER side of the fence

“Two days later I went outside to put my recycling in the bin and it was almost full with minimal room for my stuff,” she wrote.

“What the actual? I’m really annoyed.

“My last house was a semi and my bins were kept at the back of the drive near the back door – I’m not used to this.”

She continued to explain she’s thinking about putting a padlock on the bin to prevent the same from happening again in the future.

She also said that the addition of a padlock may stop her neighbours from putting something non recyclable in the bin – which could lead to her getting a fine.

“I’m tempted to put a padlock on my bins and remove the padlock when I put the bins out on bin day,” she concluded.

“It’s just I’m really careful as I’ve heard of people being fined when they’ve put the wrong stuff in.”

In comments on the Mumsnet post, the majority of people were all for a padlock – with some even suggesting a gravity lock.

The gravity lock means that bins are locked when upright, but the lid opens automatically when the bin is turned upside down into the rubbish lorry.

“I would padlock it, yeah,” one person wrote.

“Wouldn’t even waste my breath trying to speak to the cheeky f***ers.”

“Another one for a padlock,” someone else wrote.

“Mine are padlocked after I found full dog poo bags and a pizza box complete with pizza in my bin.”

And a third wrote: “Padlock them, they will never get the message otherwise and continue to do what they want.”
