Conflicting Beliefs on Abortion Rights at St. Pat’s; Confrontations at the Federalist Society

0

A poll out on Tuesday from Monmouth University (an institution with a high score in the FiveThirtyEight poll ranking system) confirms that a substantial majority of Americans support legal abortion in some form throughout the U.S. So the recent Supreme Court ruling to overturn the precedent set in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision has caused widespread dissent (and a sharp drop in the Court’s approval rating) throughout the country.

Below: Photos taken yesterday at St Patrick’s Cathedral, on Fifth Avenue. The larger crowd of pro-choice picketers chanted for the constitutional right to abortion to be reinstated, while numerous anti-abortion adherents prayed the rosary.

Many of the pro-choice protesters at St. Pat’s then marched to the University Club of New York, at 54th Street, to protest against an event hosted by the conservative Federalist Society, which was presenting a talk by William Barr, a former attorney general under President Trump. Tensions and emotions became heightened as the crowd began picketing and blocking club members, preventing them from entering the building (similar to actions by anti-choice groups outside healthcare clinics). This led to police being called in for backup.
