Delmar native goes from ValleyCats front office to active roster
When he arrived at work for Saturday's game against the Gateway Grizzlies, Sam Kinum thought he'd be helping out in the box office or checking bags at the front gate.
Instead, he got a job he never saw coming: professional baseball player. The ValleyCats, in need of a backup catcher because of injury, signed Kinum, 23, to a professional contract and activated him for Friday's 13-5 win over the Grizzlies. He did not play.
