[Men's Cross Country] Ray's Impressive Debut Leads Way for Mechanics

Freshman Ashton Ray (FR/Glenolden) had a solid start to his collegiate running career, as he and three teammates took part in the 43rd annual Philly Metro Small College Championships at the Belmont Plateau on Saturday.

In running his first collegiate race that featured over 100 runners, Ray managed to finish 68th overall in a time of 36:57.  Junior Shamar Smith (JR/Philadelphia, PA) finished 83rd , while freshmen Jack Gommer (FR/Media, PA) and Pious Rodgers finished in 91st and 98th the place.

"It is a very tough course and a hot day but our guys gutted it out," shared 18th year head coach Steve Hixson 7W3.  "Ashton ran a really solid race but the other three guys hung in there as well. We have a lot or work to do but each guy has shown good potential if they keep working at it.  Overall it was a very good start."

Williamson takes part in the Jersey Blues Invitational next Saturday in a race hosted by Brookdale Community College.
