Justin Fields Made A Surprising Admission On Loss To Packers
Justin Fields isn’t known for expressing his emotions outwardly in front of the cameras. Some people, as a result, make the mistake of thinking this means he doesn’t care. He could take it or leave it with football. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Fields is an ultra-competitor. He wants to win. That is the only thing that interests him. It is why he explained during his press conference on Wednesday that the lack of passing attempts (11 total) didn’t bother him.
He’d have gladly accepted that number or even fewer if it meant the Chicago Bears won the game on Sunday night. His frustration lay only with that. Fields hates losing. Hates it. From the way he spoke, it sounded like the mere thought of it made him physically ill. Yet one comment that stood out came when talking about that game specifically. Losing to the Packers hurt. It hurt more than any of the losses he suffered last season. The sting was so great that the young quarterback changed his work routine going into this week.
Justin Fields has fully embraced Chicago.
That includes the rivalry against the Packers. He’d already lost to them twice last year in frustrating fashion. Fields no doubt hoped he could finally slay that dragon. Getting blown out by double digits for the third straight time has to give the young man such a helpless feeling. He never lost that many times to any single opponent during his high school or college days. It burns him to think he can’t climb that mountain. His playing poorly on top of it made the feeling even worse.
The young man is becoming consumed with overtaking the Packers. That is a good thing. Other Bears quarterbacks never seemed to fully embrace the rivalry. They treated it as just another game. Justin Fields doesn’t see it that way. To him, they are the warden holding him in prison. The only way to gain free is by breaking out of the cage they’ve placed around the Bears for the past several years. If that means sacrificing more time and energy, then so be it.
