Police say 13-year-old shot to death near Omaha park
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police in Omaha were searching Thursday for a suspect or suspects in the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy near a city park.
The shooting happened late Wednesday night near Hanscom Park in southeast Omaha, police said. Officers responding to reports of shots fired in the area found Lenny Rodriguez, 13, with a gunshot wound.
Paramedics performed CPR on the boy and rushed him to an Omaha hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Rodriguez was an eighth grader at Ralston Middle School and the 22nd homicide victim in Omaha for the year, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
Police had not announced any arrests in the killing by early Thursday afternoon.
Anonymous tips leading to the arrest of a suspect are eligible for a $25,000 reward.
