[Football] Miller's Big Day Leads to Homecoming Win
Junior running back Nazaire Miller (JR/Wilmington, DE) had a career day on Saturday, as he rushed for 192 yards and four touchdowns to help lead Williamson to a 28-7 Homecoming win over the New Jersey Warriors.
On Williamson's initial possession of the game, the Mechanics went 56 yards in six plays, capped off by Miller's first touchdown, a 14-yard run to put Williamson up 7-0 at the 10:03 mark. He then got his second touchdown at the 12:53 mark of the second quarter, this time going in from 2 yards out to put Williamson up 14-0. That drive went 66 yards in six plays and was keyed off a fumble forced by Joe Kelly (JR/Newtown Square, PA) recovered by Chris Meiklejohn (JR/Marple Newtown, PA).
Williamson received the opening kick-off to start the second half marched 75 yard in 5 plays, with Miller this time scampering for 30 yards and the TD. The key play on that drive was a 40-yard pass play from Jack Grace (SR/Ridley, PA) to Luke Van Auken (SR/Haddon Heights, NJ) on a third and 12 situation.
The Warriors got on the board just over two minutes later on a nifty 34-yard touchdown run by Najier Massie. Massie ended up with 116 yards rushing on the day.
Any hope the Warriors had of a comeback were dashed at the 1:48 mark of the third quarter, as Miller this time went in from 20 yards out, just one play after a muffed fake punt attempt by the Warriors. Garrett Watkins (JR/Mechanicsville, MD) added his fourth extra point to close out the scoring and give the Mechanics the 28-7 win.
Behind an offensive line of Zachary Keeney (SR/Prospect Park, PA), Isaiah Joubert (JR/Chester, PA), Brian Finley (JR/Springfield, PA), David Pownell, Jr. and Deonte Jones (SR/Forrest Hill, MD), Williamson was able to rush for over 300 yards for the second straight week.
Cole Hunter (JR/Cinnaminson, NJ) had a big day for the Mechanics on defense as he had six tackles, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a hurry. Isaiah Bolden (JR/New Castle, DE) also had six tackles and a half a sack. Jordan Griffin (SR/Germantown, PA) had five tackles and 1.5 sacks as well.
Williamson moves to 3-2 on the year. They next travel to George Mason University to take on the Patriots in a 1:00 P.M. start.
