Jaquan Brisker And Jaylon Johnson Got Into It Over Penn State-Utah Game
They might be in the NFL now, but college allegiances never go away. When a player spends three or four years helping a school win, there is always a loyalty born. Any Chicago Bears fan on Twitter has likely seen Eddie Jackson screaming about Alabama or Darnell Mooney cheering on Tulane. Sometimes these loyalties are tested when two schools go head to head. Such was the case on Monday when Utah met Penn State in the Rose Bowl. Suddenly defensive teammates Jaquan Brisker and Jaylon Johnson found themselves on opposite sides.
Brisker was a star safety at Penn State in his college career. Johnson made a name for himself at Utah. So this was a pretty big game for both men. The first half was a fun one. Both teams traded touchdowns through two quarters, ending a 14-14 tie at intermission. Brisker and Johnson seemed civil at the time. That changed in the second half as the Nittany Lions reeled off 21 unanswered points. Though Utah scored a late touchdown, it was too late as Penn State held on 35-21. Brisker made sure Johnson heard about it. Based on Johnson’s response, it appears the two had a personal bet on the game.
Jaquan Brisker is never one to keep silent.
He’s proven that much several times this season. His words to Ryan Poles when the Bears drafted him made that clear. The guy has plenty of swagger and isn’t afraid to trash talk. Don’t be fooled by his somewhat reserved demeanor in interviews. The same goes for Johnson. His self-confidence is beyond evident every time he talks. When two guys like this get involved in wagers, there is bound to be some mild sniping. One can only imagine what they said to each other away from social media.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Bears bring any players from either program in via the draft this year. Penn State wide receiver Parker Washington might be a big help to their passing game. Conversely, tight end Dalton Kincaid has been a huge part of Utah’s offense all year. He could form a fun combination with Cole Kmet. It might be fun to see if Jaquan Brisker tries to nudge Ryan Poles in any direction. The same goes for Johnson.
