Emotional Susanna Reid fights back tears on Good Morning Britain
GOOD Morning Britain host Susanna Reid was close to tears as she admitted she could “hardly bear to talk.”
The ITV show anchor, 52, was fronting Tuesday’s episode alongside Ben Shephard, 48.
The Good Morning Britain news coverage agenda was led by the horror earthquakes in Turkey and Syria and consequent rescue efforts.
A massive 7.8 magnitude shock – one of the biggest for 100 years – was followed hours later by another huge 7.5 magnitude quake, devastating at least 12 cities.
Frantic survivors have used their bare hands to dig through the rubble of flattened homes and have been filmed pulling children to safety amid scenes of utter destruction.
As scenes played out on GMB, the presenters talked about the rescue and efforts given by the UK government.
Yet mum of two Susanna was clearly emotional.
She told the camera: “I can hardly bear to talk about it really, because when you see children taken out of the rubble, but you know how many children are trapped. It’s a desperate situation.
“You almost want everyone to put politics and international tensions completely aside and – it sounds naïve and hopelessly optimistic – but just say, whatever you’ve got, whoever you are, get your equipment in there and get as many of these people out as possible.”
Later in the segment, she added: “Oh my goodness. Desperate, desperate scenes.
“The things that people must be having to deal with out there.
“You can only imagine. Good luck to everyone. Our hopes are with them.”
