Leeds United Chat • Re: Next Manager

0
Seems like we've had a few knock backs in the search for a new manager.

My concern there would be that the 3 amigos get desperate and take a punt on some like Stevie G, which would be disastrous.

Credit to Jesse for keeping us up last season, but his appointment also seems like a desperate throw of the dice.

Bielsa had to go for me and I'd have booted him in November immediately after that Man Citeh annihilation. Thanks n ciao.

But why would we suddenly go away from man marking to zonal? Ball possession to kick and rush? Width to narrowness?

At what stage would you say, let's go for the Red Bull model and get one of their disciples in?

Makes no sense to me, especially when you've watched what it produced in the EPL with Hasenhutl.

I'm still delighted with our performance at Scum, but not the result. Taking the game to them at OT takes balls and we almost pulled a win off. But as per, we again conceded two goals, which is the pattern since the start of last season.

Is there a case that we benefitted again from being against an opponent that comes on to us? As was the case against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. We've usually done pretty well against those sides this season, but again the defensive frailties mean we're handicapped and usually come away pointless.

It'll be interesting to see how we do against Scum on Sunday. I'm a firm believer that at home, regardless of the opposition, we need to come flying out the blocks and rattle them.

Our bigger concern is when teams sit back against us and we struggle to break them down and then get picked off on the break. Lots of teams are very proficient at that strategy at this level.

Is there an argument that, as we're not getting our preferred candidates for the job, we just shelve it until the summer and wait until Iniaola is out of contract, or Gallardo has learned English? Bielsa managed ok, as a non-English speaker

Can we just grind by until then with Scooby Doo, Kurt Angle and the other fella?

Personally, I just hope we get a good upcoming coach in as a long-term appointment. It should be attractive to an ambitious coach, when you consider our fanatical support, history, potential and the midfield and attacking weapons he will have at his disposal.

As I've said before, regardless of who gets the job, out of our defenders I would only keep Koch, Wober and Struijk. We need two top quality fullbacks in, and another RCB to challenge Koch for his position.

Meslier at times can be a bit erratic, but maybe this is a product of those in front of him. But he has a habit of conceding the first shot he faces, and that's often been the only shot on target. So we need proper competition for his place, and if big money comes in for him I'm not averse to selling him and getting better in.

Newcastle got Pope for £10 mil, which is an absolute steal. So you don't need to spend a fortune on players, as we've witnessed with Gnonto. Just need to do some canny recruitment. Trippier is another great example.
