He noted that under the UN mandate humanitarian assistance reaches Syria via a cross-border corridor near the Bab al-Hawa checkpoint in the Idlib governorate into territories that are not controlled by the Syrian government whereas the bulk of the population in the rest of Syria continues to suffer because of Western sanctions
