Brit Awards 2023 host Mo Gilligan makes massive blunder introducing Lewis Capaldi
THE Brit Awards was thrown into chaos when host Mo Gilligan mistakenly called Lewis Capaldi the wrong name live on air.
The singer, 26, took to the stage this evening to perform his hit track Forget Me.
But as the presenter made a huge blunder when he accidentally called the megastar Sam when he introduced him to the stage.
Mo said: “Lets have another performance, it’s a singer-songwriter who is the spirit of the Brit Awards in human form.
“Here with his amazing number one single, Forget Me.
“It’s the brilliant…go crazy…it’s Sam Capaldi.”
Lewis did not appear to acknowledge the mistake as he belted out his hit track.
After the performance, Mo quickly apologised after realising what he had done.
He said: “I have to apologise, I did call him Sam. It just goes to show how strong the drinks are at the brit awards, they are not playing around.”
Viewers were quick to poke fun at the accidental mishap, while other viewers were less than impressed.
One wrote: “I have to say Sam Capaldi totally smashed the brits tonight!!”
Another posted: “‘SAM’ Capaldi, what a performance.”
A third joked: “Trying not to laugh during his performance after being introduced as Sam Capaldi….”
“Who? Sam Capaldi? WTF! Seriously disrespectful, did you mean LEWIS CAPALDI? Get the guys name right,” someone else fumed.
It came after Harry Styles scored one of the top gongs at the awards ceremony – winning the artists of the year category.
Accepting the award, the As It Was singer acknowledged his “privilege” as he thanked his mum for entering him X Factor without him knowing in 2010.
He also thanked his former bandmates Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan – saying he wouldn’t be where he was without them.
Harry also bagged Best Pop/R&B Act, while Becky Hill won best Dance Act and Aitch got the award for Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act.
