US military shoots down ‘unidentified object’ over Canada days after Chinese ‘spy balloon’ flew over North America
A US aircraft has shot down an unidentified object above Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that the object “violated Canadian airspace” before it was struck down on Saturday.
Both Canadian and US aircraft responded to the incident.
A US F-22 shot down the object, Trudeau said.
He said he gave the order but spoke with President Joe Biden about the incident beforehand.
“Canadian forces will now recover and analyse the wreckage of the object,” Trudeau wrote on Twitter.
He thanked the North American Aerospace Defense Command for “keeping the watch” over the continent.
It’s unclear what the object is at this time, or if it is related to the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down last Saturday.
The massive balloon the length of three buses became a source of controversy after Biden allowed it to fly across the country out of fear for the safety of those below.
The surveillance aircraft was finally shot above Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Crowds were seen cheering after the balloon plummeted into the ocean, where its wreckage is being gathered by divers and other military personnel.
And on Friday another object was shot down over Alaska per the orders of Biden after it was deemed “a reasonable threat.”
US troops along with the Alaska National Guard said they were still searching for the object on sea ice.
It’s unclear who owned the object at this time.
