Carol Vorderman takes yet another swipe at ex-close pal Michelle Mone and her husband in Twitter rant
CAROL Vorderman has taken another swipe at her ex close pal Michelle Mone as their feud intensifies.
Furious former Countdown star Carol, 61, has made it her mission to keep the spotlight on Baroness Mone amid allegations she and husband Doug Barrowman profited to the tune of £200million after ‘aggressively lobbying’ for a PPE contract during the coronavirus pandemic.
Now Carol has set her sights on the latest company linked to billionaire Doug’s business empire – Monthly Advance Loans (MAL).
She shared a story by the Sunday Post detailing how MAL, which is registered at the Isle of Man headquarters of Doug’s Knox Group, is charging up to 92 percent APR on small loans against the backdrop of the cost of living crisis.
Carol wrote on Twitter: “MICHELLE MONE’S HUSBAND A new company based around his now infamous firm on the Isle of Man is giving loans of £1,000-£5,000 with APR of up to 92% Both currently under police investigation, is there no moral bar too low for these two??”
Records show Doug, through his charitable Barrowman Foundation, is an investor in MAL’s parent group MAL (Holdings) Ltd, whose board of directors includes his son Andrew, 31, and senior Knox Group executive Ed Ogden.
Short term loans with high interest rates have come under fire as more and more people desperately seek financial help as bills and the rate of inflation soar.
The Post reports that MAL’s 92 percent rate, which is inclusive of fees, is a staggering 15 times more than those offered by banks and four times more than credit card rates.
Carol and Michelle used to be close, regularly having “great fun” on nights out together before Michelle married Doug.
But the pair’s friendship ended abruptly, with Carol recently saying: “Now Michelle Mone, I knew, many years ago and then dropped her like a stone as soon as I realised what kind of person she was.”
The ex-Countdown host has even claimed her former friend should be “slammed in jail where she belongs”.
Michelle is accused of “extraordinarily aggressive” lobbying to award PPE Medpro the £200million contract to produce medical gowns and face masks during the pandemic.
The businesswoman denies that she or her husband profited from the contracts.
Carol’s comments are in stark contrast to how friendly the pair were a decade ago when Michelle told how Carol was helping her move on from her divorce from ex-husband Michael Mone.
She said back in 2012: “Every day, I’m getting stronger and I’ve learned a lot.
“I used to do everything with my husband, so I’ve had to start all over again, creating a whole new social life at 40.
“I spend a lot of time with my girlfriends – I have great fun with Carol Vorderman – and I have discovered a passion for karaoke.”
